Professor Assen Jablensky

I am a Professor of Psychiatry and current director of the Centre for Clinical Research in Neuropsychiatry (CCRN), and have spent much of my career looking into exactly how mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, develop and why they affect only certain people.

Our staff are internationally renowned for their research.

Their specialist areas are diagnosis, assessment, epidemiology, genetics and treatment of mental disorders including schizophrenia, dementia, somatoform, anxiety and substance use disorders.

Centre for Clinical Research in Neuropsychiatry - specialising in psychiatric and neuroscience research and education
Adult and Clinical Psychiatry - researching clinical psychopharmacology of anxiety disorders, undergraduate medical education, and psychosomatic medicine
Behavioural Science - investigating the application of social and developmental psychological theories to mental health and wellbeing
Neuropsychiatric Genetics Laboratory - identifying and characterising genes associated with schizophrenia and substance dependence
Unit for Research and Education in Alcohol and Drugs - researching use of sustained-release Naltrexone implant, dual diagnosis, and self-control in depression
Neuropsychiatric Epidemiology Research Unit - studying genetic and environmental risk factors over the lifecourse for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, other psychotic disorders and intellectual disability and undertaking surveys of the prevalence and profile of psychotic illness
